2014

We are approaching the end of 2014 - just a few hours left and it is appropriate to reflect and thank those that have supported us over the past 12 months.

Despite the difficulties with fundraising the charity has maintained its services for the children that attend Honeylands and we will continue to do so during 2015. There are various events planned by our supporters (new and old) over the coming months to bring in much needed funds and an ongoing event covering the whole year planned to raise substantial funds for specific specialist equipment.

To find out more follow us on Twitter (@honeylandscc) or follow and like us on Facebook or through this blog.

There are too many people/organisations to thank here individually that have contributed during 2014 but you know who you are. A really big thank you to you all for your support (in whatever way you have) and donations. Your contributions really have made a difference to what we provide for the children and hopefully we can continue to do so and expand that provision in 2015.

So enjoy your celebrations this evening and from all at Honeylands a very Happy, healthy and prosperous New Year.

THANK YOU.

Diggers Rest Quiz Night

Wow Eee. £1500.00 raised in one night.

What a fantastic night of quizzing, fun and good food at the Diggers Rest PH last evening. 100 quizzers filled the pub and enjoyed sausage and mash to start followed by 4 rounds of quiz questions, 1 music round and 1 round of lateral thinking, plus a raffle and auction.

Birthday boy Ian was the eloquent quiz master suitably attired for the occasion. The table mascots as shown on the bar in the photo were purchased and donated to Honeylands by the contestants. The sausages for the meal were supplied and donated by Andrew Freemantle, Kenniford Farm Shop.

Thanks also go to all the people and businesses who donated prizes for the raffle. Thanks to Hadyn Thomas and Exeter Chiefs for the fantastic auction prizes.

The biggest individual thank you(s) has to go to Mark, Donna, Lorna, JJ and all the staff who organised and made this night so very special. What a great gesture by Mark to choose Honeylands Children's Charity as the beneficiary of this event and to donate all the money taken for the food.

Finally a huge thank you to the 100 quizzers from Woodbury Salterton and surrounding area for coming out and supporting Mark and team and ultimately Honeylands Children's Charity.

Note:
The Diggers Rest is a gem of a pub set in the lovely village of Woodbury Salterton. Why not visit, enjoy a meal and take in the friendly welcoming atmosphere. It is just what a village pub should be.

A very Merry Christmas to you all and a Happy New Year.

Honeylands Children's Charity (HCC) Supporter Request

Hi everyone, sometime now since I blogged you. We are still around and doing fine, lots of things happening to make Honeylands Children's Charity (HCC) even better for the children and families who attend the Honeylands Centre.

Take a look at the website that's changed, the bee has been buzzing and has updated the site. Looks good don't you agree.

Now then, you have all heard on telly about DIY SOS and Children in Need and how they seek support from the community - well this is HCC SOS.

There are a lot of you good people out there who give us likes, shares and re-tweets on our social media but wouldn't you just like to get a little more involved. It is not time consuming, not necessarily regular support but it is enjoyable and you will meet some nice people (me probably) and make new friends. We just need to be able to ask for your support at some events.

But ......
this is what HCC are in need of now. On Saturday 29th March for an hour or so between 8.30 am and 6.00 pm at Sainsbury's Pinhoe Store in Exeter could you shake a tin. Sainsbury's are fantastic corporate supporters of Honeylands Children's Charity this year and on that date we are having an
in-store collection. Its could be fancy dress (optional) if you want dress as a children's character but if not just come along and help raise some vital cash for HCC.
We need people in 1 or 2 hour stints. Please get in touch if you can help via the CHARITY website  contact page (www.honeylands.org.uk) or direct to honeylandscc@gmail.com and let me know your name and time you can give between 8.30 am and 6.00 pm.

Now you are thinking about it, go on do it you'll be surprised how enjoyable it is and it would be lovely to see you there. Before or after you can do your shopping. WIN WIN for all

Sainsbury Pinhoe Book Sale - Supporting Honeylands Children's Charity

Hi everyone,
Sainsburys Store at Pinhoe are holding a secondhand book sale in the foyer of their store on Wednesday 19th February during opening hours. Why not pop along, do your shopping, have a coffee and buy a book for a small donation. There are some great books and some real bargains to be had and of course you will be helping raise funds for Honeyland's Children's Charity.

Julia the PR Ambassador for Sainsburys has done a fantastic job organising this event, so do support her and the charity.

Hope to see you there.

Exeter Business Club

I had the pleasure a couple of weeks ago of being invited to the Exeter Business Club breakfast meeting at Fresha Cafe on Sowton. What a great group of businesses and very welcoming. I gave a short brief about Honeyland's Children's Charity (HCC) and the work of the Honeylands Centre.

I have now heard from Ashley at Printing.com who invited me that HCC have been chosen as one of two charities to be the Business Club's charity of the year. Absolutely fantastic and I am really looking forward to working with this group of SME's throughout the year for the benefit of those who attend Honeylands.

This just shows what a great community spirit there is amongst the group and how businesses large or small can come together for the benefit the local community.

I know we will have a super year, oh and by the way the breakfast was good also.

The Oakford Players

The cast of Aladdin invited myself and Pat from Honeyland's Children's Charity and Josh from the Calvert Trust to the Red Lion at Oakford, near Bampton last night to present both charities with cheques to the value of £850. What a great bunch of people and lively too. It was lovely that the children from the pantomime cast made the presentation.

The Oakford Players on the 5th, 6th and 7th December last year put on their annual pantomime in Oakford Village Hall to raise funds for Honeylands CC and the Trust. Thirty five people from the Players came out in dreadfully wet conditions to greet us, make us warmly welcome and wine and dine us with a lovely roast meal in the recently refurbished village pub.

The Oakford Players have been putting on an annual pantomime since 1988 raising funds for local children's charities and have raised in excess of £22,000. What a fantastic achievement and great local community spirit. Well done to Strong Pong/Executioner/Genie/Chairman Patrick Lester and the whole cast and supporters - may you continue with your successful fund raising efforts.

Finally a big thank you from all the children, families and supporters of Honeylands for your kind and thoughtfull gesture.
Like the pantomime a good night was had by all.

Sitel Fundraising Donation

Sarah and Les met with Steve and Rob this afternoon, both senior members of the Sitel organisation in Exeter. They came bearing gifts in the form of a cheque for £4000.00 which the staff of the company had raised and they had chosen to support Honeyland's Children's Charity as their charity of the year.

The photo shows (l to r) Rob, Sarah and Steve. Les is behind the camera for this one.

What a fantastic amount to have raised through all their fundraising ideas and hard work. To all the staff at Sitel a BIG THANK YOU from all associated with the charity, the children who attend Honeyland's, the parents and staff.
